This chapter will guide you through the drawing of a simple cave map with Tunnel. Before you start you need:

  • the cave survey data, in survex format;
  • a scanned sketch of the cave drawings that you made during the survey.

If you have a piece of simple cave map, with not too complex overlaps, and with few features, you can use it. Otherwise you can use the sample data that comes with this tutorial data.zip. The survex datafile contains only the first few legs, and the image file has been drawn with a computer program, we will get to the complete cave data later on. For now we start with these simple input:

  • gm0.txt: survex data;
  • gm0.gif: a scanned cave sketch.

The following discussion will be based on these sample data, as they will be used in the pictures. Now start Tunnel, so that you get the "MainBox" window.
