Hallstatt is a real festerer's haven - a picturesque lakeside village with all the advantages of Ice-cream, sticky buns, bier and the added bonus of a gear shop and diving school where the divers can get bottles filled. Owing to lack of flat space, the main road goes through the village in a tunnel, and there is no free parking. To avoid the crowds of like-minded touroid drongoes, it helps to pedal sedately around the lake, drinking bier and sunbathing, as demonstrated here by Chris Densham, Jenny Moss and Becka Lawson.
