Acceptance Letter from the Royal Geographical Society

Dear Aaron,

GFG 48/07

On behalf of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) it gives me great pleasure to confirm our approval of your expedition's plans and our decision to support it with a grant of £2000. The source of your grant is the Marjorie Sweeting Bequest.

The size of this grant is given to recognize and applaud the team for incorporating a research element into your caving expedition. The RGS-IBG would prefer that this money is spent on logistics. However if the grant is spent on equipment the RGS-IBG requests that once the expedition is over that the equipment purchased is maintained for the long term use of the club.

This approval and funding is based on the expectation that you will gain the appropriate ethical approval by your university.

I would be grateful if you could sign and return the attached sheet of terms and conditions, including your full bank details, and we will arrange for the funds to be credited to that account as soon as possible. The RGS-IBG prefers the bank account specified to be to be of your institution and not of an individual.

Your expedition and contact details will appear in the society's press release later in the year. If you have any objection to this, please inform me at your earliest convenience.

If it proves necessary to change the objectives or destination of the fieldwork, the membership, or the budget, please let me know at once, as the Society's approval is given on the basis of the plans you have already submitted.  Any reasonable changes are unlikely to affect our support, but we do reserve the right to withdraw our approval and support if there are substantial changes.

A preliminary report is due a month after you return from the field. A full report is due by September 2008. Full details of both are provided in the terms and conditions document that is attached.

We look forward to hearing from you and wish you all the very best of luck with your planning and expedition.

Yours sincerely,

Sarah Henton
